Description

The painting of a warm and golden sunset glistening on some sailboats at an ocean marina with waves lapping against the hulls and surf crashing in the distance calling the weary sailing captains of the boats to look off at the the sunset and contemplate their chosen lives.

The beach life, is nothing like the boat life. One moves on the water and learns of the ocean and its ways. The ways of the water are a metaphor for life itself. The water moves in all directions at once; it is everywhere, it fills up everything, it can be found in every nook and cranny of our world and yet there is no end to its vastness. It is as if we are all tiny creatures swimming within a great body of water that goes on forever. Life is much the same way. We swim through this endless sea of existence, trying to find happiness but always coming up short.

Even though we are just one part of this ocean of living things, we feel lonely and alone in this big vast universe. The only thing that keeps us afloat is each other. Without love we sink into the depths of despair. This painting depicts two boats looking out over the horizon at the setting sun reflecting upon the waters before them. They glisten and bring warmth in the last warmth of the setting sun. The same way our day is over and we are now ready to retire from work to go home and relax with family or friends while watching the sunset. Sometimes, however, when the sun sets too quickly we don't get to see the beautiful colors of the sky change from red to purple, pink, yellow, orange, and finally blue. But when it does this warm orange glow casts its light upon everything, and when looking out at it over the expanse of the ocean the small man made objects give us a sense that we are insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

The earth is vast and we are small specks floating around on its surface. So enjoy your time on the water, and make sure you spend more time with your loved ones because they may not be here tomorrow. It seems bleak, but the water is constant. It eats at the hulls, and never stops moving. We should take advantage of every moment we have. And remember to share your experiences with others. Because even if you're not happy right now, there will still be another chance for you to live again, so make the best of it.

A captain wants nothing more than to step onto his ship and sail away into the sunset, where he will watch the sun set, reflect upon his life and appreciate what he has been given. He is going to die soon. It can be in the next ocean storm or it can be while processing the days catch. Soon enough, the sun will rise again, and the cycle will continue. Until then, he will let the wind carry him back to port, where he will rest easy knowing he did all he could. There is nothing wrong with dying. It's inevitable. Death is something that happens to everyone eventually.

But, for now, we look out at the warm sunset and listen to the seagulls, chains moving, bouys clinking, and sea lions barking. As we look forward to the future we realize that there is nothing better than being alive and appreciating what we've been given. We need to cherish these moments, because they are the reason why we were put here on this planet.

Sailing is different than other boats. The ropes and canvas flapping in the wind, and the sound of the waves breaking on the hulls remind me of my childhood memories of sailing with my friend. My friend was the first person I ever saw cast off his lines and ride the winds, and he taught me how to do the same. The ocean's salty spray filled our lungs, and we laughed about how silly we looked riding the waves, but it didn't matter to us. It felt good to laugh at ourselves and be carefree. Now, as an adult I am thankful that my friend took me sailing when I was young.
